A. T. (Arch Turner) Allen was state superintendent of public instruction for North Carolina, 1923-1934. The collection includes scattered correspondence of Allen and copies of speeches and statements by him, all concerned with public education; six lecture notebooks, 1894-1895, kept by Allen when he was a student at the University of North Carolina in classes taught by Kemp Plummer Battle (1831-1919), Francis Preston Venable (1856-1934), and James Thomas Pugh (1873-1942); and a few other items.
